DIVINATION

Divination is an ancient practice used across many cultures to seek guidance from the unseen world. It is not about predicting the future or telling someone what will happen. Instead, divination helps reveal the deeper patterns, relationships, and spiritual influences present in a situation.

Through the casting and interpretation of cowry shells and other objects, we ask the helping spirits, ancestors, and guiding forces what wants to be known about a particular question or moment in your life.

Divination offers insight, clarity, and direction. It helps illuminate where energy may be blocked, where attention is needed, and what may support you in moving forward with greater alignment.

The cowry shell divination method I practice was taught to me by my teacher Kedar S. Brown, who apprenticed with Malidoma Some of the Dagara tradition of Burkina Faso. Malidoma learned these practices from the elders of his village, including his uncle and grandfather.

While I practice within this lineage of teaching, each divination is guided not only by the shells and objects but also by my helping spirits and ancestral guides, who assist in the interpretation of what is revealed.

Divination is therefore not something I "do" alone. It is a conversation with the spirit world carried through the symbols on on the spread.

A divination session begins with a question. The question may relate to a life transition, a relationship, a difficult situation, or a sense that something in your life is asking for deeper understanding.

Using the cowry shells and other sacred objects, I open the divination and interpret the patterns that emerge.

Rather than providing predictions, the reading revels underlying dynamics and spiritual influences surrounding the question.

Most importantly, the divination often includes ritual prescriptions - meaningful actions that can help restore balance, address obstacles, or strengthen the path ahead. These prescriptions may involve offerings, symbolic acts, or practices that help bring the insight of the divination into lived experience.

Divination therefore does not simply provide answers; it offers guidance for how to move forward.
